Week 10

In this week's lab we started off watching a video about wolves and listening to all the different sounds. after we did that our table got the opportunity to look at a couple different footprint molds and we got to try and guess what kind they are. Surprisingly our group guessed pretty close to what the actual animal was. After those two activities we got the chance to study for our exam the rest of the class which really helped a lot. In my future classroom, I would love to have access to those footprint molds. I think that would be a great learning experience for the kids and the kids would love it.

Week 9

In this lab we did an activity called data on the wall where we got the chance to create our own sort based on different factors. My table did a binary sort with animals that lived on land and then animals that lived in water. After we did that we went to another table to look at their sort and see what kind of sort they did. I feel like like activity is really well when it comes to knowing your sorts and being able to create one and guess what kind of sort it is based on evidence.

Week 8

In this weeks lab the question of the lab was where do organisms get their traits. We took a look at the difference between acquired traits and genetic traits. We started off class doing an activity about classification. We had to stand in a line from shortest to tallest and then by hair color. After we did some activities like that we had to do partner work involving these mice. We had to figure out the order of the 4 pictures and what was longer ago and what picture was more recent. We also had to graph our recordings which was at first difficult to set up but got the hang of it after a while.

Week 7

In week 7's lab we are investigating ecosystems and how animals and their surroundings are related. We started this investigation with a simulation of an obstacle course. my group choose a deer and we added coyotes, tracks, and hunters to show how these obstacles are obstacles deer face in their everyday lives. We learned a lot about food chains and webs, Abiotic and biotic factors.

Week 6

This week's lab has been a bit different than other labs. We started this lab in a new location doing new things. we started this lab by playing a game that demonstrates a blood clot by playing an interactive game. After that we had to draw an animal and talk about the setting and talked about shortages that can impact the animals life. The last thing we got to do was to observe an owl pellet. It was interesting to see a real life pellet and pick through it to find different bones and try hard to figure out what kind of animal it is. This lab showed that you can make something super educational but make it super fun at the same time.
